Happy New Year, Meltingpot Community!

Dear Meltingpot Community,

I’m going to be honest. I’ve been so caught up in getting my Kickstarter campaign funded in the last waning hours of 2018, I haven’t spent that much time planing for 2019. That’s not how I wanted to start the new year, but that’s something I know I have to work on. Going with the flow and being okay when things don’t turn out exactly as planned. My kids go back to school on January 2. I don’t go back until January 14, so I’ll just use some of those days to do my vision boarding for the new year and all will be well.

In the meantime, instead of sharing my New Year’s Resolutions, I’d like to share some of my proudest accomplishments of 2018.

Books

Professionally, I’m really proud of the book I co-wrote with Ibtihaj Muhammad this year, Proud: My Fight for an Unlikely American Dream. Working with Ibtihaj, not only did I learn a lot about fencing, Islam, and the Olympics, I also learned what it takes to truly achieve greatness. I consider it a blessing that I got to help Ibtihaj tell her inspiring story.

Blogs

Creatively, I’m proud of the fact that I relaunched this blog and created a podcast that, as of this writing, already has three episodes with the fourth slated for this Friday, January 4, 2019. I knew I wanted this to happen. I imagined it and I made it manifest.

Physically, I’m proud of the fact that I completed the Whole 30 eating plan with a small group of friends and actually lost the weight I wanted. Yes, I gained it all back, but I am still proud of the fact that I accomplished the weight goal I set for myself. I’m also amazed that since May 1, I’ve woken up before 7 am and walked my new fur baby every single day (minus a couple of sick days). He is better than any gym membership. Cuter too.

Babies

As a parent, I’m just glad I survived what has been one of the hardest years ever with my two teens. Both of them had their own struggles this year, they’re both still alive, and we can all still smile together. That’s a win in my book.

If you haven’t had time to plan ahead for the new year, dear readers, at least take a moment to look back. What are some of your proudest accomplishments this year? Remind yourself of all the things, big and small, that you did well in 2018. And then remind someone else. Tell me. I’m listening. And I’m proud of you.

Happy New Year, Meltingpot Community!

All good things in 2019.

Peace!
