Diverse News Digest

Hello Meltingpot Readers,

It’s Wednesday, which means I’ve gathered some diverse news stories to keep you in the know. Because life doesn’t only happen in black and white. And we all need this kind of information and inspiration to keep our spirits satisfied and our activist agendas on point. So, here’s what we have this week in our diverse news digest.

Dancing Democrats, Muslims for Migrants and Dora Done Right

Presidential hopeful, Andrew Yang, Can Dance and Will Dance. Nobody should ever vote for a presidential candidate because he can do the Cupid Shuffle. But somehow Andrew Yang makes me want to rethink that rule.

Muslims for Migrants. Far too often, the only media coverage the Muslim community receives revolves around violence and/or hate crimes. Thankfully, that doesn’t stop Muslims in the United States from following their truth and acting on their faith in ways that benefits us all, as in this example of the Muslim community raising funds to to free detained migrants. This is the version of America’s Meltingpot that I cherish.

Diverse News storiesBlack Hair MattersA federal bill to end hair discrimination is in the works after two successful local bills have been passed. It’s about time, wouldn’t you say?

Authenticity Matters to Dora in the Lost City of Gold: This is progress for Hollywood. A cultural consultant was hired to ensure there was an authentic depiction of the Quechua language and culture portrayed in the new Dora movie rather than proceed with sloppy stereotypes and gibberish for an ancient language. Well done, Dora.

We Gon’ Be Alright…or Are We? A new docu-series digs deep into America’s racial politics and our current state of affairs. Based on Jeff Chang’s critically acclaimed book of essays of the same name, the series is available for free on PBS. So, check it out.

Peace!
