Babygirl’s Birthday, Books and My Body

Hello Meltingpot Readers,

Tomorrow is a big day for so many delicious reasons. Let’s just list them all.

Ms. Meltingpot's Babygirl
This girl is turning seven tomorrow! Happy Birthday, Babygirl.
1. It’s babygirl’s birthday! My little munchkin is going to be seven years old! I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT. It seems like just yesterday I was posting on this blog about her actual birth. And now, this kid is heading for second grade. This summer she’s learning how to swim, spending her days at dance camp (even though she hasn’t ever really taken formal dance classes, but don’t tell her she doesn’t know how to dance) and throughly enjoying being an only child while her brothers are away for the summer. I secretly prayed for this child for years and God didn’t disappoint. She is the daughter I always wanted and yet she is nothing I expected. I love her for being her own quirky, energetic, clever self.

2. The book I wrote with Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, Proud: My Fight for an Unlikely American Dream officially debuts tomorrow! I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with Ibtihaj because her story truly is remarkable, but completely relatable as well. She was a Black girl who didn’t fit in, so she had to find her own way of making the world see her, a Black, Muslim, female athlete. Even if you don’t care a lick about fencing, you’ll still love this inspiring story. And if you don’t believe me because I am kind of biased, The Christian Science Monitor, Bustle and Barnes and Noble included Proud in their Best of Lists for July 2018!

3. I don’t know if I announced this here, dear readers, but for the last 28 days, I’ve been doing the Whole30 program. I’ve been trying to lose 10 pounds for the last few years, but those 10 pounds keep finding me, so Whole 30 seemed like a good plan to try. I roped two friends into doing it with me and Tuesday is the last day of the program. (Praise Black Baby Jesus and The Spirit of Oprah). I haven’t stepped on a scale (as per the program) but come Wednesday, we’ll see if those pesky pounds are gone. Or at least some of them. *fingers crossed*

How appropriate, two big things to celebrate and I can finally eat cake! (Oops, that’s probably not the proper mindset after doing the Whole30.)

I hope you all have multiple things to celebrate in your lives. If you do, sound off in the comments so we can all offer up congratulations!

And go!

Peace!
