“Always Be My Maybe” An Asian-American Rom-Com

Hello Meltingpot Readers,

I think we all know that I’m a huge advocate for diversity. I love #diversebooks, #diversemovies, #diversepodcasts etc. As a person who always grew up  hungry for media content that reflected my life as a Black girl, I know how important it is to see yourself in the pages of books, in movies, on TV and on stage. And it’s not just people of color who need to see their lives reflected in contemporary stories, white people too need to see that people of color lead “normal” lives that include things like eating, sleeping, working and falling in love.

That’s why I’m so excited to see Always Be My Maybe, a new romantic comedy with two Asian-American lead actors and an ensemble cast of ethnically diverse actors. I also love Ali Wong and would probably pay money to see her read the phone book aloud, so there’s that going for the film as well. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but plan to get on that right away. FYI, it’s on Netflix. Check out the trailer and let me know if you plan to watch as well.

Peace!
