“Hearts Beat Loud” Is the Meltingpot Movie I’ve Been Waiting For

Hello Meltingpot Readers,

Full disclosure, I haven’t even seen the new indie film, Hearts Beat Loud yet, but based on the trailer alone, I love it. (And no, I haven’t read any reviews because I don’t want to spoil my fun.) From what I can gather, it’s about a middle-aged dad who records a song with his teen daughter and then wants to start a band with her after the song goes viral. She’s on her way to college and the last thing she wants to do is be in a band with her dad. So, what happens next? We have to see the movie to find out.

Besides the fact that I’m all for watching middle-aged people living out their creative dreams (Don’t look at me like that, dear readers.), I love the casting choices here; dad is white and his daughter is mixed-race. This is the type of color-blind casting I’ve been waiting for all my life. We have a cute little story about a dad and his daughter, about aging, and letting go of our kids and chasing our passions. It’s not about race. It’s not deep and heavy. It’s a cute story that many people will be able to relate to. Simple and brilliant!

Check the trailer and try not to fall in love. You can thank me later. Let’s all go see it this weekend so we can chat about it on Facebook next week. If you haven’t checked out the MyAmericanMeltingpot Facebook page, you should. I share even more Meltingpot goodness there every day of the week.

Be good to yourselves, dear readers.

Peace!
