Friday Favorites: Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations

Hello Meltingpot Readers,

I’m sure by now you’ve all read about the tragic death of celebrity chef and TV personality, Anthony Bourdain. He committed suicide in early June while on assignment in France.

True confession, I knew who Bourdain was and vaguely remember seeing one of his shows while I was staying in a hotel once, but I really had no affection or understanding of who he was or what he meant to people around the world. Now I do, thanks to the outpouring of articles, tributes and social media posts attesting to what a great man he was, not just in the kitchen or on TV, but in real life. Bourdain went way beyond recipes when he travelled and talked about food. He was all about digging deep into what food meant to people and learning about different cultures and advocating for the underdog, wherever he went.

After reading all the wonderful things about this man, I decided to start watching No Reservations on Netflix. I started by watching the episode on Tangier, Morocco, followed by Granada, Spain. Last night we were in Brazil. And dear readers, I am totally hooked. Not only does the show leave me hungry, but I’m also learning so much about these places (places I’ve actually been to at that) and the people that live there. Not to mention, the camera work on the show makes every single place look amazing. This is the type of travel/food/culture show I’ve been looking for all my life. It literally screams “meltingpot.” Sadly, when I watch, I’m mourning the loss of a man with such a huge appetite for people, food and unknown places.

If you haven’t tuned into No Reservations or Bourdain’s other shows, do yourself a favor and dig in.

What’s your favorite Anthony Bourdain show? Let me know so I can add it to my must-watch list.

Peace!
