Hello, in less than a week, I’ll be stepping onto a plane and moving to Spain. At this point, I’m simply running on a combination of adrenaline, nerves and carbohydrates. It’s not pretty, I know. Still, I have to find ways to calm myself down, as well as maintain a level of enthusiasm for what I’m about to do. Lucky for me, I discovered the Spanish Sex in the City on Netflix and it is the perfect antidote to my move-to-Spain jitters.
Stumbling Upon the Spanish “Sex in the City”
So, a few evenings ago, I was tired, but feeling too anxious to go to bed. I wanted to find something mind-numbing but inspirational for my upcoming move abroad. Think Emily in Paris, but with a little more color. Thanks to my constant scrolling and the Netflix algorithm, I found the perfect series to watch. It’s called Valeria and after watching just one episode, I can comfortably say, it’s the Spanish Sex in the City. And I love it!
The main character, Valeria is a novelist working on her first book but has writer’s block. Her sassy girlfriends are all living their best lives, but also trying to help her get her life together. Her husband, a photographer, loves her, but wants her to get a real job to help pay the bills. And then there’s Victor, the handsome stranger who believes in her artistic talent.
Don’t Judge Me
Honestly, if I weren’t on the verge of a nervous breakdown, I probably wouldn’t watch this show, but it’s the perfect thing for me right now. First of all, it’s helping me re-train my ear for Spanish. Second, it makes Spain look so colorful and vibrant, a welcome reminder of why I fell in love with the country in the first place. And third, I love any story about a writer.
So, that’s where I am right now. Living vicariously through Valeria and her writing and romantic woes, while simultaneously packing boxes and trying to figure out how to finish this life, so I can begin the next.
P.S. the soundtrack on Valeria is awesome as well.
