5 Meltingpot Podcast Episodes to Be a Better Anti-Racist Warrior

Hello Meltingpot Community,

This is my first week “off” from the podcast. Normally on Fridays, I would be releasing a new episode, but this is my first week of my summer break. That being said, I still wanted to share five episodes I’ve done, culled from all four seasons, that will help on your journey to be a better anti-racist warrior.

Even if you’ve faithfully listened to the show, I urge you to listen to these episodes again with fresh ears as we’ve entered into this new phase of anti-racism work as a country. Also, please feel free to pass these episodes on to those in your networks who may need to hear this information more than you.

Thank you for your support, Meltingpot Community. Le’t keep doing hard and transformative work!

Five Meltingpot Episodes to Be a Better Anti-Racist Warrior

Thanksgiving is a Lie

Deconstructing The Thanksgiving Myth was the first episode of the show. Listen in to this episode with Dr. Crystal Fleming, the author of How to Be Less Stupid About Race, to hear how misguided and problematic it is to celebrate a Thanksgiving holiday based completely on a lie that exonerates European settlers from the crimes they committed against Native people. This episode will have you reconsidering your Turkey dinner and everything you thought you knew about American history.

Technology Can Be Racist

Episode #25 features journalist and professor, Meredith Broussard who explains why we all should be afraid of self-driving cars and how racism gets baked into all aspects of our culture, including technology. Yes, anti-racism warrior, even our cell phones can be racist.

How to Be an Anti-Racist  Children’s Author

Episode #6, one of my favorites, features award-winning kid-lit author, Zetta Elliott. Zetta has published dozens of books for young readers, all of which feature diverse characters, but she has had to fight the publishing industry every step of the way. But her belief that all children of color deserve to see themselves on the pages of books, keeps her writing and fighting relentlessly. This is truly an inspirational episode.

How to talk to your kids about racerHow to Talk to Your Kids about Race

Episode #18 features an expert panel of diverse parent educators who share their personal experiences talking to their kids about race, as well as their professional experiences teaching about race and racism. This is a great episode that every parent –of any race – should listen to for useful tips and ideas.  Also, the show notes include links additional resources.

How We Fight White Supremacy

This episode originally aired in 2019, but I rereleased it as Episode #40 with a new introduction at the beginning of June 2020. This is the episode that everyone must listen to in order to understand what white supremacy really means and how it manifests in day-to-day life. Think of it as white supremacy 101. But this episode is also dedicated to sharing some freedom dreams. I’m joined by the authors of the book, How We Fight White Supremacy and we imagine what the world could look like without white supremacy and how we can get there through fighting and celebrating in living color.

There you have it, Meltingpot community. I hope these five episodes will help to inspire and inform your journey to be a better anti-racism warrior. Keep doing the work and sharing your victories. Also, if you have any questions about being an anti-racism warrior, please leave them in the comments and I promise to answer.

Peace!
