Hello Meltingpot Community,
Mother’s Day is less than a week away and like all things during a global pandemic, celebrations probably aren’t going to look like Mother’s Day past. No Sunday church services. No champagne brunches. No taking mom shopping to pick out her gift.
Of course that doesn’t mean there still aren’t plenty of ways to honor and celebrate all of the mamas in our lives. Birth mamas, adoptive mamas, step-mamas, grand-mamas. We can still send gifts, flowers and virtual hugs. If you live with your mama, you can cook her a delicious brunch with all of her favorites, or dinner if that’s her jam. Me, personally, I live for brunch. But I’ll also eat pancakes for dinner so, whenever my family wants to make me pancakes, I’m cool.
Celebrating Multicultural Mamas on Instagram
And while we’re on the topic of honoring our mothers, I want to highlight some of my favorite mamas living multicultural lives on Instagram that inspire me, make me laugh and sometimes give me great ideas for this child-rearing journey we’re all on together.
If you’re looking for some online inspiration – anything from meal ideas to #curlygirl hairstyles to dealing with racism – check out these multicultural mamas on Instagram:
The Tagalog Project
Filipina-American mom Clarice is married to an African American man. She’s raising her ridiculously adorable daughter to speak Tagalog and learn more about Filipino culture. Lucky us, she brings her followers along on her journey. Find her at The Tagalog Project.
Mommy Week
Ashley is an African American mom who is also Muslim. She shares all about her life raising three kids, including one with epilepsy. She’s a homeschooler, super creative and her Instagram feed always makes me want to just invite myself over to her house. Finder her at MommyWeek.
The Mandarin Mama
If you’re looking for a mom who keeps it real and happens to be raising her four kids to be bilingual in Mandarin Chinese, then do yourselves a favor and visit Virginia at The Mandarin Mama. She’s also obsessed with K-Pop, so expect plenty of references to #BTS. I usually get my laughs from her posts.
Mixed.Up.Mama
If you want to follow a thoughtful mama who regularly posts about all of the joys and complexities of raising Mixed-Race children – she has three sweet #curlygirls of her own – in England, then add Mixed.Up.Mama to your list of mamas to follow. Also, she’s got some great posts about hairstyles and hair care!
All Done Monkey
It seems kind of obvious that the founder of the Multicultural Kid Blogs would be a great mama to follow on Instagram, but just in case you needed reminding, Leanna uses her Instagram feed to share images of her multicultural family and inspire us to think deeply about how to raise our children to be true global citizens. Find her at AllDoneMonkey.
I Am Tabitha Brown
Tabitha Brown is a self-taught Vegan chef, mama, wife and recently crowned Internet sensation. I started following her because I saw her video for turning carrots into bacon and I was immediately hooked. And I’m not a vegan, but she makes me want to be one! Check out her feed if you’re looking for recipe ideas, uplift and an opportunity to laugh! Find Tabitha at IamTabithaBrown
Jeena Wilder
Way back in the 20th century, I wrote a blog post about Black families adopting white children. For years it was my most popular post. Well, Jeena Wilder is living that experience, with a twist. She’s a Black woman, married to a white man. Together they have three biological Mixed-Race children and one daughter who is white and adopted. Her Instagram feed isn’t really about adoption, it’s about family, whatever color that might be. If you’re looking for a pretty pictures of a happy family that “doesn’t match,” follow Jenna at JeenaWilder.
So, there’ you have it, Meltingpot Community. I hope you enjoy getting to know these mamas living multicultural lives, who take the time share their wisdom and experiences with the world. I think all of these women are providing a service with the content on their Instagram feeds and deserve to be recognized, on Mother’s Day particularly, but really, every day. Wouldn’t you agree?

Lovely list! I can’t wait to check these ladies out, Lori! Mother’s Day sure is going to feel different this year—I won’t be able to fly my mom up. I follow chocolatesushiroll (Tiara). She’s living in Japan and raising her kids to speak Japanese and Spanish just like me and I love her content.
Hi Errol,
Thanks so much for sharing Tiara’s account! I just started following her too. Are you teaching your kids Spanish and Japanese too? I wish I had known. I just recorded a podcast episode about raising our kids bilingually. It will be out on Friday. It was so fun, I may do another one down the line!
