Hello Meltingpot Readers,
You may be excited about Thanksgiving coming up this week, but I’m more excited about the day after Thanksgiving. Because that’s the day I launch the My American Meltingpot podcast!
I’ve already posted the trailer on the blog so you can listen to that and get a taste of what to expect. Full disclosure, I’m super nervous about putting myself out there in the podcast space. I hate the sound of my voice. I hear every question I should have asked but didn’t. I wonder if anybody is going to find the topics we’re discussing interesting and worth a 30-minute listen. So, why am I doing this then? Why am I adding another podcast into a universe already saturated with podcast noise?
Because deep in my meltingpot soul, I believe the world needs my voice. I believe the world needs every opportunity to hear another version of the truth. A version that colors in the missing pieces with the perspective and voices of marginalized communities and people of color. I’m creating this podcast because even though there are 525,000 podcasts already in existence, I haven’t been able to find one that satisfies my need for cultural commentary with a multicultural perspective. And rather then wait for that show to magically appear in my podcast feed, I decided to create it myself.
I know the first few episodes may be rough around the edges, but I’m giving myself permission to not be perfect on my first try. But, I have assembled an amazing team and I have wonderful cheerleaders who won’t let me give up. They want me to succeed. I want to succeed. And America needs me to succeed. So, I will.
