Hi Meltingpot Readers,
Remember I said I was going to start sharing more of what goes on in my personal life here? This is MY American Meltingpot after all. So, I just wanted to share that this past Saturday, el esposo, the kids and I jumped in the car and drove to Baltimore to celebrate my grandmother’s birthday. It wasn’t a big celebration, just family breaking bread at my grandmother’s favorite all-you-can-eat Asian buffet. I know, my grandmother likes sushi. Random. Now, take a peek at the photo and see if you can guess how old my grandmother is. Please note, although you can’t tell in the picture, she is wearing leopard print pumps. That’s her real hair and she remembers everything about her childhood, including the fact that her father was the first person in their North Carolina town, Black or White, to own an automobile. My grandmother is 95 years old. Happy Birthday, Grandma.

Oh my, your grandma is lovely. I never would have guest 95. My grandmother is 90 and she shows her age. I am saying what you already know (and obviously do!). But listen to her stories, so that you may past them on. Grandmothers are so special. I am flying to North Carolina sans daughter to spend a weekend with mine in January. Those two days are going to be priceless.
