Hi Meltingpot Readers,

Please pardon my spotty posting these days. I #amwriting like a fool in order to meet our July 1st deadline to our publisher. In case you’ve forgotten, my co-author and I are finally writing an updated version of our book, Hair Story:Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America (St. Martin’s). The book came out in 2001, but Black hair has continued to make headlines, so somebody has to write it all down and get the story (not our hair) straight. And it might as well be us.

So, imagine Ms. Meltingpot knee-deep in Black hair drama, business and culture, teasing out a narrative and getting it down on paper. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I LOVE THIS JOB, but I also have another job called Mom to three crazy, high energy, lovable, kids. One had a fever of 105 this week, one is in the midst of little-league playoffs and one is learning the joy of the full-blown temper tantrum. Summer break starts Friday and I’m throwing a tween birthday party this weekend. Co-ed! (Pray for me, people.)

Thank God, el esposo is amazing and not teaching for the first summer session. I don’t know how things would work. So, send me positive writing thoughts and excuse my brief appearances here on the Meltingpot. I promise I’ll be back in full-effect starting July 2nd.

Peace + Hair Grease!
